Simple Ways to Get Your Joy Juice Flowing

ree

You know how you feel when you get stuff done? It's like checking off all the items on your To Do list in a single afternoon. It requires a little thought, maybe some planning and flexibility, and let's not forget a good amount of determination, too. Getting your joy juice flowing works the same way. You gotta put a bit of effort into it, but it needn't feel like a chore, nor does it have to be difficult or exhaustive. Here are my favorite ways to get my mojo moving.

Choose the good words

The words we tell ourselves have the power to either build us up or devastate us. That's why it's so important to choose the good ones. Surround yourself with positive signs and place them in all of your favorite spaces so that every where you look you'll be reminded of an encouraging voice that supports you. Follow positive creators on your social media feeds and bypass the ones that spread anxiety and fear. Same with friends. In fact, especially with friends. And family. Because your space is sacred and you deserve an edifying environment.

Pull a Brown Girl Booster Card

Pulling a Brown Girl Booster card daily has been one of the easiest ways for me to connect with myself, but this practice can be done using any affirmation deck that you're drawn to. It sets the tone for my day and promotes an attitude of expansion and fosters intention. In fact, intention is the secret sauce. Speak it out, feel it in your heart, and let that energy work for you. It doesn't get much easier than that!

Get creative!

Dreaded childhood school projects or sucky art classes you had to endure are usually at the heart of feeling creatively challenged. But at one time, before the pressure set it, I'll bet you DID enjoy letting your fingers fly. Now's the time to get reacquainted with what your playful kid likes and explore various activities. Look beyond the usual forms like painting or singing if they don't hum to you. And if you want to experiment with more than one expression, the more power to you! Once you turn off the critical voice and focus on having fun, you'll discover that your new interest(s) is a great tension releaser. Don't be surprised if you get your best ideas during that quiet space.

Engage your body

Move your body in any way you can manage; take a short walk, stretch, dance, do housework; anything to get that energy moving! Be kind to yourself. Accept any physical limitations and work with what you can do. The goal here is to be aware of your body, connect with how you feel in it, and support yourself with loving words.

I would like to mention journaling is really good for balancing the emotional scales, too. The simple practice of putting pen to paper keeps those communication lines open with your inner self, often providing a safe outlet to just let it rip without rules, restrictions or confrontations. You can either keep a dedicated booklet and make the process a ritual or just grab anything to write on to match your spur-of-the-moment, as-needed style; you call the shots.

How do you like to feel your joy? Do share; I'm really curious how you keep yourself grounded and connected with the Universe.
