The last time I checked, we’re in 2026. Yet you’d never guess by the devious manipulations of the Republican Party and their single-minded focus to roll America back to the 1950s—back when only white Americans had rights and privileges to live the so-called American dream.

So what gives, America? Or should I say, what gives, white America?  Why are you so driven to eviscerate civil rights and equal protections from Black Americans? The US government restructured ICE as an arm of the Department of Homeland Security. Since March 2025 they have been openly targeting and brutalizing people of Hispanic origin regardless of their status as American citizens.  Their behavior is reminiscent of slave patrols and KKK.  Why did it play out like this? How is this even happening like this and why is this mindset still alive and kicking? This is how I see it: White America actively maintains and cultivates the hatred and brutality of their white ancestors.

It seemingly defies logic that something that happened three centuries ago can still have a stranglehold on people in 2026, right? Still, this is what I know deep in my bones:

As a country, we have never healed from the trauma of slavery.

There has been no accountability, no responsibility for those who upheld an immoral system. There have been no reparations made to a brutalized population. Southerners' anger and resentment festered over their lost lifestyle and built another system equally horrifying out of the ashes, one that once again positioned the white race at the top while crushing the newly emancipated through its oppressive laws, unchecked violence, and systemic terrorism.

Just sit with that for a minute. It’s a lot to take in, I know. But there’s a pattern here. And patterns only repeat themselves when we don’t learn our lessons so that we can actually change the narrative.

After the civil war ended, America’s focus was to reunite the country. They didn’t set up transition programs for our newest citizens. There were no hand outs, no hand holding. Black Americans were left to limp, beg, struggle and make do the best they could in a society that resented their existence, whereas white America was able to rebuild her wealth. The attitude was I’ve got mine and I’m going to do everything I can to not share with you.

Our history is an ugly one, but we don’t have to keep reliving the past. Racism is here, but it doesn’t have to stay. Attitudes must shift. Patterns must be recognized, and wrong-doing must be claimed. Laws tried to balance our society but current events prove this to be a fragile fix. We need something more that gets to the root of the matter. It’s time for the soul work to begin.

You can work with the Think Bigger Affirmation Cards for the soul work. In fact, they are designed for that very purpose. This is not a quick fix so take it day by day. Gain some peace and steady yourself within the mess we’re living in.

Stephanie, thanks for your wisdom and guidance in all things astrological. I have worked on the concept of unraveling racism since 1995 and to say that it has been a journey is putting it mildly. XOXO, Linda
